We recently completed a full bathroom facelift. The clients wanted to "expand" the bathroom to make room for a new baby, without changing the floorplan or taking up additional square footage. The bathroom originally had brown carpet throughout, outdated 1980s cabinetry, tile and fixtures, a dropped ceiling with fluorescent lighting, an enclosed shower, and had a wall with a door separating the sink area and the shower/toilet area. All of this contributed to the feeling of it being a "cramped" space. We removed the wall and door, the dropped ceiling, and gutted the bathroom to give us a blank canvas to work with. We added beige-toned porcelain tile for the flooring and painted the walls a creamy color. The finishing touches include a light-colored designer cabinet with a granite countertop, new white bathtub and all new fixtures, and brushed nickel recessed lighting.
Without adding any additional square footage, the bathroom manages to look much more spacious than before.
