Moving along again ...
Well, things slowed down for a couple of weeks there, while we waited for some feedback from the engineer on a change that would make the plumbing workable. But things seem to be moving again. The site was supposed to be staked today, and they will put the augercasts in starting Monday (if all is going according to plan).
This morning I put a down-payment on the SIPs, so they will begin constructing those at the factory.
The SIPs will make putting the house up rapid, once the augercast pilings have set for a bit. If you visit Porter's website, you can see how the SIPs come as pre-cut, insulated panels that are put together with a crane or by hand for the smaller ones. Window and door holes are already made, as are chases for the electrical wires. Here's a video showing a SIP home being put up.
Also looked at the Velux site to check out the skylight shade possibilities ... venetian blinds, honeycomb, or solid shade?

One permit down, one to go ...
We have the promise of a DEQ permit, assuming the measures the builder has outlined to protect the site during building are acceptable. So we will move to the next permit set, the township & county's construction, soil erosion, health and demolition permits. We hope they will not take more than two weeks.
So I emailed the bank just to let them know we are likely to move forward soon (they still remember us!); and we have the preliminary drawings from Porter SIPs. It's kind of neat, it comes in a "package" with the screws and sealants and all -- kind of like when I built dollhouses for my nieces (except much better insulated).
Another change is that the builder is proposing a concrete floor -- Lite deck. This is an insulated form onto which concrete is poured to make the floor. It has a high thermal mass and the concrete can be stained various colours. It's great for laying the radiant heat floors too.
I think we have settled on the U-shaped kitchen but are moving the bathroom wall a bit to be sure that a wheelchair can turn around in the bathroom.

Construction Plans
The construction plans are done (This is part of the title page). The builder and designer are going to meet with the Structural Insulated Panel company (Porter SIPs) next week, and the augercast pile company, so they'll be ready to go once the permits are in place.
