The Hobbit House and Curved Windows

Yesterday, we received this month’s issue of Cottages and Bungalows and were delighted to see a story on the Hobbit House, a modern-day cottage in Pennsylvania that was built based on the famed story by J.R.R Tolkien. About a year or so ago, we recall seeing that amazing “butterfly” window from the same cottage on the back cover of another magazine, Fine Homebuilding.

Although not to the same level of grandeur as the Hobbit window, it does remind us of a large curved window we custom-built for a local historic home a couple of years ago, with that similar curvy-rounded shape. See after picture below:

Thank goodness for magazines that showcase spectacular architecture and craftsmanship (in such a quaint little cottage!) – It gives us readers and trades people alike the inspiration to create and build something out of the ordinary.

1920s Bungalow Porch Repair

This adorable bungalow had been suffering from a deteriorating porch. We removed the entire porch and replaced with hardy new planks and repainted to match what was there before. The porch is as good as new again!

Constructing Wood Windows for Bathrooms in Vintage Homes

We recently finished a couple of fun bathroom window projects. These casement windows had privacy glass panes, and were made to open outwards!

For a Spanish Revival home, we built two custom wood casement windows for the client’s upstairs bathroom.

For a Colonial Revival bungalow, we relocated the bathroom window further down and built a custom wood window. We replaced the siding surrounding the new window, built matching wood trim and added a coat of new paint. The new window looks as if it’s always been there.

Custom Wood Windows for a Vintage Brick Tudor

For this brick stunner, we removed the large deteriorating windows in the front center and right and replaced them with custom-made wood windows.

Arts & Crafts Fireplace and Custom Cabinets

It's been a really busy summer this year! At the moment, we've been working on several exciting projects, including building custom wood cabinets next to an Arts & Crafts tiled fireplace we did several months ago. The cabinets have glass shelves and will be fitted with interior lighting to light up the homeowners treasured object's d'art.
