Complete Modern Bathroom Renovation

We recently completed a full bathroom facelift. The clients wanted to "expand" the bathroom to make room for a new baby, without changing the floorplan or taking up additional square footage. The bathroom originally had brown carpet throughout, outdated 1980s cabinetry, tile and fixtures, a dropped ceiling with fluorescent lighting, an enclosed shower, and had a wall with a door separating the sink area and the shower/toilet area. All of this contributed to the feeling of it being a "cramped" space. We removed the wall and door, the dropped ceiling, and gutted the bathroom to give us a blank canvas to work with. We added beige-toned porcelain tile for the flooring and painted the walls a creamy color. The finishing touches include a light-colored designer cabinet with a granite countertop, new white bathtub and all new fixtures, and brushed nickel recessed lighting.

Without adding any additional square footage, the bathroom manages to look much more spacious than before.

Week No. 9 of Anaheim's Weekly Series of Historic Homes

We were surprised to see that one of the houses we restored over a year and a half ago is featured as Week No. 9 in the City of Anaheim's Weekly Series of Historic Homes (Celebrating Anaheim's 150th Anniversary). To see more homes featured in other weeks, go to: http://www.anaheim.net/article.asp?id=1330.

Rebirth of a Classic California Craftsman Bungalow

We've been doing a lot of restoration work on this beautiful craftsman bungalow. The clients originally had us build a custom set of wood bookcases with pillars, styled after the Arts and Crafts aesthetic, that separated the living and the dining room areas. The project then morphed into helping the clients bring this classic bungalow back to as close to its original condition as possible. Check out the progress below.

Brick columns were removed and replaced with custom-built pillars

All windows had been re-roped with vintage weights

Installed cedar shingle siding on an addition in the back of the house to match the original siding of the house

Created matching tiered concrete steps for both back doors

Reconstructed the front door with Arts & Crafts-styled window panels

Created a period appropriate ribbon driveway

Siding Restoration - A Work in Progress

Here are a few snapshots of the siding restoration work we've been doing for this lovely vintage home, which had suffered years of vinyl siding and stucco over the original wood siding. The client is diligently working towards getting the home "Mill's Act" ready while bringing it back to its original glory. The overall project will also include a new "grass ribbon" driveway and new landscape (we'll post new pictures when these are completed). What an eye-catcher when this is all done!

Upcoming Floral Park Home Tour - Santa Ana, CA

We're going to be at the Floral Park Home Tour coming up at the end of this month, April 28th and 29th. Our ad will be displayed in the home tour booklet. This tour is featuring some of Orange County's finest vintage homes and it's a must-see for all those interested in history and architecture. We've been lucky to have had a chance to work on a few homes in this area. Floral Park is one of our favorite neighborhoods in the county, a treasure trove of early 1900s to mid-century homes that are amazingly still intact. If you have the opportunity, you definitely want to stop by and get on the tour.

New Company Image

Now in our 4th year of business, we decided to revamp our "company image." We hired a friend to design the logo and business card. We hope this new design is a more visual representation of the vintage aesthetic that is typical of the houses and projects we work on. We've also updated our website, http://www.goodhomeconstruction.com and created this new blog site to update our friends and clients on our happenings.
