Exterior Door and Steps for a Colonial Revival Bungalow

Over the summer, we added an exterior door, a small pet door, and a landing with steps to the backyard from the master bedroom in the back of a 1920's Colonial Revival Bungalow house. We tried to make the addition as unobtrusive as possible to fit within the architecture of the bungalow (including matching the siding almost exactly to the original siding - see primered siding versus painted siding) while the owners and their dogs enjoy their new convenience !!

Gorgeous Refinished Hardwood Floors

Take a look at these floors!! We just finished one of multiple projects for our new clients who recently purchased a 1920's Spanish bungalow. These beautiful oak planks have been sanded, buffed, stained, and shined to look like glass.

Arts & Crafts Fireplace and Custom Cabinets

It's been a really busy summer this year! At the moment, we've been working on several exciting projects, including building custom wood cabinets next to an Arts & Crafts tiled fireplace we did several months ago. The cabinets have glass shelves and will be fitted with interior lighting to light up the homeowners treasured object's d'art.

1920's Kitchen Renovation In Progress

Here's a sneak peek at a kitchen renovation we've been working on. Out came the old simulated wood formica countertop and in comes the shiny new granite countertop, complete with a new stainless steel dishwasher, sink, and wall mounted faucet. A few more tweaks with "new" flooring (out of salvaged wood planks) and some custom cabinet doors, and this kitchen is ready to go.

Reinvented Vintage Lamp Post Light

Have you ever wanted to reinvent something into something else than what it was originally intended for? One of our clients had a vintage street lamp post light that they wanted to reuse as a hanging pendant in their main hallway. We took the light, turned it upside down, and converted it into a really cool chandelier! His picture was on the cover of SqueezeOC.

Laundry Room Wainscoting for a Vintage Home

Here's another neat project we just completed. After we relocated the plumbing for the washer and dryer, the laundry room was rejuvenated with new period-appropriate wood wainscoting.

Ideas for Exterior Paint Colors

There are quite a few paint suppliers out there that have colors geared towards historic preservation. A couple of examples are American Traditions by Valspar (Lowe's carries this brand) and Sherwin-Williams Historic Palettes. We especially like their color combinations for Arts & Crafts bungalows (see sample palette above).

Another helpful resource for exterior color combinations can be found in Bungalow Colors by Robert Schweitzer. You can order his book directly through his site: http://www.historichousecolors.com/colorbook.html or on http://www.amazon.com/.

Look at this Kitchen!

This kitchen was featured in the May issue of Sunset Magazine. We thought it would be a good idea to post some of the pictures here for inspiration. Just love the details and the colors!

Gates, Gates, and More Gates

We're almost at the finishing line for the exterior renovation project we've been working on (see earlier post). We just completed a few more Craftsman-style custom-built gates - check out the pictures below!

Cool Find!

We came across this company, Hip Haven, that makes vintage style screen door inserts. These would look great for any midcentury style home. They can fit inside a 36" screen door or be customized to fit any other sizes.

New Lawn, Driveway and Walkway Revealed

Here's a look at a new lawn, ribbon driveway, and walkway we just completed. What instant curb appeal! There are a few more things left with this project, including a few custom-built Craftsman style gates. We'll be posting pictures of those gates as soon as they are done.

Spanish Bungalow Fence and Gates

We just completed this fun project building a strong redwood fence and gates that fit the style appropriate for our clients' cute little Spanish bungalow. It was painted a beautiful shade of teal that was the perfect finish to the fence.
